Louis André Jørgensen is a visual artist and writer, using language as both medium and subject to explore concepts of nature, folklore, queer identity and grief. Drawing on the poetry of our material surroundings and their layered history, Jørgensen develops site-specific works in which slowness and immersion are central methods. Jørgensen works conceptually with narrative, patterns and fabulation in text, performance, photography, drawing, sculpture and sound.

Jørgensen's works draw on personal experiences of loss and transition as well as ancient medicinal knowledge or myths about witches, trolls and outsiders who break with norms concerning gender, body or religion. In recent years, they have worked with stones as important but overlooked and endangered elements of nature: In Denmark many giant stones, which are habitats for insects and lichen, and to which old myths are connected, are removed so the land can be cultivated. In this way, we lose both biodiversity and important anchors for ephemeral language and culture. This brings up a complex grief, concerning the loss of depth, meaning and diversity we suffer when species disappear, nature is streamlined and local myths and stories are forgotten.

Louis André Jørgensen has studied visual arts at The Jutland Art Academy in Aarhus and at The Art Academy in Trondheim, and critical writing at Biskops Arnö School of Writing in Sweden.
